The New Atheist’s Guide to Not Being a Total Asshole: Episode 9 (Love)

Listener Essay

Posted March 17th, 2017

It’s the second to last episode of season 1 of the NAG and love is in the air… which is pretty convenient ‘cause that’s what this episode is all about! Join Sage and his lovely wife Rachel (on her infants debut) as they talk about how their love has changed over 14 years of marriage, 2 kids, and one whopper of a faith transition.

I listened to the episode with Sage and Rachel. I think it might be both interesting and hopeful to people wondering what happens to a young couple who go through a Mormon faith transition that eventually leads both of them out of the Church. The good news is that marriages can become richer, stronger and happier when the LDS church is jettisoned from the mix. They talk about their Mormon courtship and marriage and how their love for one another evolved during their inadvertent transition ten years later. My spouse and I are also fortunate to have gone through the transition and come out the other end with a happier, healthier and more authentic relationship. We did so at age 60, so exiting the Truman Show can be a positive outcome to young and old alike.

Thanks Sage and Rachel! Loved this episode, I am also the sappy 14 year old girl at heart whom was obsessed with Jordan Catalano. I was hanging on every word of your ‘meet cute’. Definitely not boring! Loved this podcast and all your insights and observations, thank you!
