Froback Friday – Bob’s Musical Faith Crisis Prayer and Stuff Like That

Minisode

Posted October 2nd, 2015

Have you ever wanted to laugh during a prayer? Have you ever wondered what Glenn sounded like as a 19-year-old missionary full of missionary zeal (or at least full of something)? Have you ever wanted to hear Bob sing all about his faith crisis (or, even better, have you ever wanted to comment on Bob’s singing cred?)

Well, if any of those describe your particularly uncomfortable itch, then today’s Froback Friday episode is definitely gonna scratch it. And then some.

This was a great episode. It sorta gave us the psychohistory of Bob, Glenn, and all the rest of us when it comes to Mormon prayers/praying. I do want to say that while I do/did enjoy REM’s “Losing My Religion”. For me the song that really woke me up during the end of my Faith Crisis was 10,000 Maniacs’ “Candy Everybody Wants”. It was this song and video that showed me how much of a cult LDS inc really is. The lyrics, the Deseret Beehive, the slogans “Re-introducing the Amish Cheerleader” “minds soft and lazy” showing he Deseret Alphabet….I just had to laugh myself for being so angry and bitter over something that anyone can see and hear is a really ignorant based cult. Here’s the video. https://youtu.be/3M9ncAkKSNM

I do appriciate the nodd to, ‘STUFF LIKE THAT.’
THE MORMON MOMENT LINGERS FAR LONGER THAN EXPECTED. Yes, the candy is foretold off in the next moment. Ah The Latter Daze, I do love how they carry on and on. . .

      swimmingly

Great episode! I also tend to see myself in much of the music I listen to (I guess that’s half the point). I remember going to a joint Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails concert shortly after the conclusion of my faith crisis. A few songs by both groups really stuck out to me and, amidst all the hard rock and head banging, felt symbolic and cathartic to me personally:

Soundgarden – “The Day I Tried to Live”
NIN – “The Hand that Feeds”
    – “Came Back Haunted”
    – “Find My Way”

My sister used to wait in my closet to scare me. But she wouldn’t jump out and yell when I walked in the room. She’d stand there silently, listening to me tool around my room, until I opened the closet door and then she’d just stand there smiling at me. Talk about piss your pants terrifying.

    • I’ve not met your sister and probably never will, but I like her.

Songs I loved to sing along to during my departure were from Bon Jovi, yes I’m old, “It’s My Life” and “Have a nice Day”!

I love the idea of the faith crisis music repository. This is one that brought a lot of emotion out of me (and still does)

It’s like they wrote it specifically for my faith crisis.

My brother had to call home from his mission once because he needed some extra paper work for his visa or stuff like that. The first thing he said to my dad was “I can’t take it out here I’m coming home”

I’ve never seen my dad more angry, even though it was all just a joke it took him a long time to get over it. I think he would have had a heart attack and died if my brother would have tried stuff like that you tried.
